“Ngeya” Festival rescues people’s cultural identity

Africa-Press – Angola. The third Eastern regional music and dance festival will be held from the 28th to the 29th of June, in the city of Saurimo, Lunda-Sul province, to rescue cultural identity and exchange ties with other peoples.

The information was provided this Tuesday by the project coordinator, Pedro Capumba, reiterating that the event aims to preserve the habits and customs of the people.

Speaking at the festival’s press conference, the person responsible said that the event will include a gastronomy fair, lectures and cultural workshops that will aim to teach young people interested in playing traditional musical instruments.

On the occasion, the artistic director of the aforementioned festival, Gabriel Tchiema, said that the third edition will have nine dance groups from Lunda-Norte, Lunda-Sul and Moxico, each province represented by three.

He highlighted that two other groups will be invited by the host, including a group from the province of Huíla, called Vindjamba.

He highlighted that each group will be made up of 14 elements.

He said that Huíla’s presence is to exchange knowledge in the field of traditional music and dance, with each representative receiving a symbolic prize of one million Kwanzas.
