Nicaragua appoints new ambassador to Angola

Africa-Press – Angola. Diplomat Roberto José Morales Fuentes was appointed, last week, in Managua, to the position of ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Nicaragua to the Republic of Angola.

According to a press release from the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the president of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, appointed, last week, new ambassadors, of whom Roberto Morales Fuentes will represent the interests of that country in Angola.

Through presidential agreement 182-2023, Ortega appointed Roberto José Morales Fuentes to the position of extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Nicaragua to the Government of the Republic of Angola, the document reads.

The appointment of Roberto José Morales Fuentes as Nicaragua’s ambassador to Angola must still pass the scrutiny of the National Assembly (Parliament), where the “Sandinistas” have an absolute majority, for due ratification.

Last July, Managua expressed his country’s interest in opening an Embassy in Luanda and called on the Angolan government to do the same in the capital of this Central American country.

Maria Cândida Pereira Teixeira is the Angolan ambassador to Nicaragua, but resides in Havana, Cuba

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were formally established on September 6, 1979.
