Africa-Press – Angola. Several guardians in the municipality of Namacunde, Cunene, defended, this Friday, the increase of school contents on the feats of February 1961, the date that marks the beginning of the armed struggle for national liberation.

On February 4, 1961, Angolan patriots armed with machetes launched an attack on the São Paulo Prison and the House of Reclusion, in Luanda, with the aim of freeing the unjustly imprisoned politicians.

The action culminated in the proclamation of National Independence, on November 11, 1975, by the then first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto.

Speaking to press, regarding the date, those in charge of education considered it essential that the deeds of the heroes of the 4th of February be instilled in students from primary school.

“It is necessary for the Ministry of Education to implement a specific chair that makes reference to this and other events that marked the historical trajectory of the Angolan people”, said the person in charge Panduleige Kamati.

Advancing that the country is facing an important date that paved the way for national independence.

António Zua, also in charge of education, said that the approach to the day on which the armed struggle began should be more publicized, pointing to school textbooks as one of the ways.

In turn, Clementina Ndunduma said that due to the significance it has as an example of determination, resilience and patriotism, the date should be more publicized not just on the eve.

To press, the person in charge Ana Cristina recognized that many people are still unaware of the events of the 4th of February 1961, as it was little publicized.

This year, the city of Mbanza Kongo, capital of the province of Zaire, will host the central act of the Day of the Beginning of the Armed Struggle for National Liberation, which takes place on Saturday.
