Africa-Press – Angola. Service providers for the Angolan oil industry employ at least 21,000 workers across the country, said yesterday in Luanda the president of the Association of Service Providers for the Angolan Oil Industry (AECIPA), Bráulio de Brito.
Regarding the Legal Regime on Local Content, he said that of the number in question, 16,000 are Angolans and around 5,000 are foreign workers who work in the service sector of the Angolan oil industry.
The official refers that, in general, there are around 200 registered service providers, with around 177 companies forming part of the AECIPA, ranging from 100% Angolan companies, companies incorporated under Angolan law and multinationals operating in the provision of services.
Bráulio de Brito points out that in terms of staff training, the country responds to the needs.
“I must say, with great satisfaction, that at the level of staff in the oil industry and in the service sector of the oil industry, we don’t have a big issue. If we look at the industry as a whole, we will be able to see that in all multinational companies, operators, we have senior staff, in fact, with positions of great responsibility within the management of these companies”, he indicated.
He reinforced the need to continue to work, develop and train Angolan staff, so that the country can have an industry and an economy supported by Angolan technicians.
As an example, he continued, at the level of AECIPA, the Create Program was developed, which promotes internships for young graduates in service provider companies.
He explained that the objective is also to create a base of young people who, right after their training, benefit from a 12 to 18 month internship program, in order to become more apt for the market.
“Unfortunately we are going to see, in many cases, that young people are rejected in their first job due to lack of experience. We are trying to fill this gap, so that we have a base of trained young people, with enough experience, so that they can be easily absorbed by the job market”, he reinforced.
