Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Women’s Organization (OMA) secretary-general, Joana Tomás, stated on Wednesday (01) in Luanda that the organization she chairs, condemns all practices that tend to devalue women and negatively influence society’s moral, civic, and cultural values.

Joana Tomás was speaking to the press following a meeting with musician “Tshunami,” promoters, and cultural representatives, which aimed to address the content of the lyrics and dances of the Kuduro musical style, highlighting those with obscene messages.

According to the secretary, OMA has an unwavering commitment to valuing and defending women’s image, and therefore condemns artistic practices that contribute to their public devaluation.

Regarding the meeting, Joana Tomás said that this artist has displayed, in shows and music videos, choreography and content that are offensive to the dignity of Angolan women.

“We received worrying images and reports about their actions. Our organization could not remain silent, as it works to protect the value of women, who fought so hard to gain a place in Angolan culture and society,” she stated.

The OMA General-Secretary addressed a message to the new generation of artists, considering their role in transforming society.

“You have followers, you are role models, so you should serve as a motivation for other young people, so you should create good things. Value women, use art to build, not to destroy,” she appealed.

After the meeting, musician Barroso Manuel expressed regret for his previous actions and committed to redirecting his career and musical writing.

“I would like to thank OMA for their advice and leave here with new ideas. I will try not to make the same mistakes,” declared the artist, who apologized to society for some less-than-ideal behavior.
