Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan tax system and the ways to reduce tax evasion, with a view to increasing public revenue, were discussed, this Tuesday, by entrepreneurs from the Angolan Women’s Organization (OMA) in Huambo.
During the event, held at the MPLA Committee in the municipality of Huambo, the participants focused their approach, above all, on the payment of Labor Income Tax, Stamp Tax and Added Value Tax (VAT).
On the occasion, tax technician Isidro Romeu said that the tax system is a set of taxes existing in a given territory, within the scope of the contribution of fiscal citizenship necessary in society, to increase public revenue.
He said it is necessary for entrepreneurs to have knowledge about the tax system, including the types of taxes that exist and that must be paid, depending on their activities in the market, so that they are exempt from fines and interest.
Fines and interest, according to the person responsible, are often the result of a lack of knowledge and not due to negligence on the part of the citizen, hence the need to learn more about the matter in question.
He recalled that taxes exist in a given territory to meet the collective needs of a given State, within the framework of satisfying collective needs.
In turn, the deputy secretary of OMA in the province of Huambo, Maria da Conceição Katuvala, said that the event aimed to reinforce the awareness of the organization’s women linked to entrepreneurship on tax payment matters.
He mentioned that the OMA, as the female arm of the party that governs the country, has an increased responsibility in empowering and consolidating this fringe in society, hence the need to provide training linked to the economic sector.
He said that the MPLA women’s organization intends to contribute to the collection of public revenue, through the entrepreneurial talent of women, who are increasingly qualified in various economic sectors.
OMA was founded in 1962 in Leopoldville, now the Democratic Republic of Congo, by a group of Angolan women, members of the philanthropic association, called “Kudiangó”.
