Africa-Press – Angola. The Provedoria de Justiça Provincial Service in Cunene is working to set up focal points in the municipalities of Namacunde and Ombadja, to safeguard citizens’ rights, freedoms and guarantees.

This Friday, the head of the Ombudsman Service in Cunene, Eusébio Vaenduanawa, said that they are working with the traditional authorities in the selection of representatives of the focal points.

He explained that the selection will fall to lawyers. They must be people well known in the community and who speak the local languages, to deal with citizens who have their rights violated”, she said.

“We are doing everything so that in the next few days we will have the focal points working with competence to register complaints and deal with normal cases. The most relevant ones should be forwarded to headquarters,” he said.

The official said that these representations will also allow for the dissemination of information on the role of the ombudsman in defending citizens’ rights, freedoms and constitutional guarantees.

He recalled that citizens’ rights are often violated, but they do not speak out due to lack of knowledge, hence the need for greater dissemination in national languages.

Eusébio Vaenduanawa noted that, at the level of the Cuanhama municipality, awareness-raising actions in the Oshikwanyama language take place regularly on the importance of the Ombudsman’s Office, its attributions and competences.

In the period from January to March 9 of this year, the Ombudsman’s Office in Cunene received 68 complaints, of which 23 were resolved and 45 constituted cases sent to the bodies of the SIC, Court and Attorney General of the Republic (PGR), for due treatment .

Complaints are related to the administration of justice and fundamental rights, labor disputes, land rights.

The ombudsman is an independent public entity whose object is to defend the rights, freedoms and guarantees of citizens, with a view to ensuring, through informal means, justice and legality of the activity of the Public Administration .
