Africa-Press – Angola. More than 10,000 illegal immigrants from the DRC and Congo, who were living illegally in Cabinda province, have been repatriated in the last 45 days by the Ministry of the Interior in the region, as part of the first phase of Operation “Connection”.

The data was revealed to the press this Tuesday in Cabinda by the provincial delegate of the Interior, Francisco Notícia Baptista, at the end of the 12th meeting of the Provincial Council, chaired by Governor Suzana de Abreu.

According to the official, during the period under review, more than 50 Angolan citizens were detained for allegedly promoting and aiding illegal immigration, and more than 300 criminal proceedings were initiated for the use and possession of Identity Cards (ID) by individuals of dubious nationalities. The National Police commander in Cabinda also announced that the second phase of Operation “Connection” will begin after the festive season to combat various crimes, especially border crimes, that occur in this northernmost province of Angola.

He said that the second phase may involve community members, neighborhood coordinators, municipal and communal administrators, among others, for greater coverage.

He added that illegal immigration continues to be a concern for local authorities and others, given its negative impact on the communities of this region.

The province of Cabinda shares a vast land, sea, and river border with the two Congos.
