Order of Solicitors of Portugal wants to cooperate with Ombudsman

Africa-Press – Angola. The president of the Order of Solicitors and Execution Agents (OSAE) of Portugal, Paulo Teixeira, expressed, this Tuesday, in Luanda, the institution’s intention to cooperate with the Ombudsman’s Office, with a view to ensuring greater speed in the justice system, in order to safeguard citizens’ rights.

Speaking to the press, at the end of a meeting with the Ombudsman, Florbela Araújo, the person in charge said that the implementation of the figures of solicitors and enforcement agents in Portugal made the judicial sector more efficient and effective.

“We intend to share with Angola the solution found in Portugal to improve the functioning of the judicial system, as procedural slowness is a transversal problem throughout the world”, he said.

He maintained that the Portuguese Government implemented the figures of solicitors and enforcement agents, which have made the justice sector faster, with the protection of citizens’ rights.

He recalled that the enforcement agent is a professional with public powers who is responsible for ensuring compliance with the judges’ decision.

In this sense, the agent is responsible for carrying out all enforcement measures, including summonses, notifications and publications, seizures and sales and the settlement of credits.

For her part, the Ombudsman expressed satisfaction with the meeting, highlighting that the implementation of the figures of solicitors and enforcement agents in the Angolan legal system will reduce procedural delays and guarantee legal certainty.

One of the major problems that afflicts our society is procedural slowness, and for Angola it would be an added value to implement this order, especially for resolving cases that have to do with property and land conflicts.

He highlighted that the order would greatly reduce the distress of citizens and the Ombudsman’s Office, which defends citizens’ rights, freedoms and guarantees.

The OSAE president is in the country for a four-day working visit, during which he will hold meetings with officials from the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, the Angolan Bar Association (OAA), as well as educational institutions superior.
