Africa-Press – Angola. The African Mixed Martial Arts Championship (MMA) contest starting this Friday, at the Kilamba Multiúsos pavilion, in Luanda, is the result of the Executive’s commitment to organizing events.
According to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Palmira Barbosa, who spoke at the opening ceremony of the event, which will take place until Sunday, the Government continues to invest in sports infrastructures and beyond, making Angola a powerhouse in terms of organization of competitions.
He stated that the fact that the country hosts several sporting events over time demonstrates the recognition of the work that has been done.
Flanked by figures from her portfolio and those responsible for international fighting sport institutions, the former captain of the National Handball Team appealed to the principle of “fair-play”, regardless of the desire for competitive results.
“It is necessary to win with a spirit of solidarity, sporting fraternity, living victories with enthusiasm, without however forgetting the principles of “fair-play”, he said.
He added that the 15th of September is marked in the history of Angolan sport by the unprecedented organization of the African MMA Championship.
On the occasion, the president of the Angolan Federation of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Armando Diogo, stated that the Kilamba pavilion could also be the stage for the 6th edition of the World Championship.
Speaking to the press, during the opening ceremony of the African Amateur Championship, he said that the intention was expressed by the president of the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF), Kerith Brown.
According to the Angolan official, from the conversation held and what he saw of the pavilion, the IMMAF leader was satisfied with the property and said it was superior to the venues that hosted the senior and junior World Championships held, respectively, in Serbia and Abudhb. .
Contrary to expectations, the competitions only start on Saturday instead of this Friday, for organizational reasons.
In this competition, Angola is chasing the title, after being runner-up in 2021, behind South Africa.
