The official disclosed the figures at the closing of a training course on mechanical demining, assurance and quality control, having stressed that the process also allowed the destruction of 68 thousand 364 anti-tank mines and 6 million 364 thousand and 266 explosive devices.

She explained that the cleared areas allowed the government to build roads, bridges, power transmission lines, ports, airports and the expansion of land for cultivation, construction of schools, hospitals, railway and dams, most notably the Lobito Corridor with the Benguela Railway, contributing to the economic growth and development of the country.

The provincial delegate for Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland, António Upite, on his turn, reiterated that demining has allowed farmers to cultivate more, create leisure spaces for children, and build suitable infrastructure for the development of families.

He reaffirmed the Lunda Sul government’s commitment to continue supporting all initiatives aimed at strengthening human security, to guarantee local development and national reconstruction.

António Upite appealed to the technicians from the demining companies to put the acquired knowledge into practice and apply it to their daily work.

For 11 days, participants addressed topics related to land clearance, mechanical demining, quality management and control, mine accident victims, human resources and education, risk and assistance to victims.
