Africa-Press – Angola. The president of the Group of Women Parliamentarians of the National Assembly, Teresa Neto, praised Tuesday the steps that the country has taken to increase female representation in decision-making positions, towards achieving parity.
The deputy made this assessment at the end of a visit to the women’s prison in the municipality of Cacuso, as part of the annual activity plan of the Group of Women Parliamentarians, which essentially aims to listen to the concerns of women in the province.
Teresa Neto said that the National Assembly has 87 women, a figure above 40 percent, which represents notable progress compared to previous years, making the country a global example in this matter.
Despite this, she believes that there are still steps to be taken in the hemicycle and in other segments of society, so that women increasingly assume management and leadership positions on an equal footing with men.
On the other hand, she expressed concern about cases of domestic violence, sexual abuse and other phenomena that have been occurring against women in the country, which is why parliamentarians carry out awareness campaigns to combat these practices and promote values morals, with a view to creating a healthy and balanced society.
The Group of Women Parliamentarians began a two-day working day in the province of Malanje on Tuesday, which continues this Wednesday with the holding of a workshop on the Role of the Family in the Preservation of Moral Values and the Fight against Sexual Abuse, as well as Family Planning: Causes and Consequences of Early Pregnancy.
