The participants of the III edition of the Africa Space Conference (NewSpace Africa 2024) considered, this Friday, in Luanda, the event to be “excellent and historic”, as it discussed aspects linked to the space industry, with a vision of growth of Africa in the aerospace domain.

According to university professor António Alberto Neto, who spoke the aerospace issue must be understood at the level of education since primary school, advising African leaders to be united to support progress.

He highlighted that another important aspect of the meeting was the fight against poverty, stressing that the use of satellite can allow the improvement of the agricultural sector.

For the managing director of Space In Africa, Temidayo Oniosun, the exchange of experience during the event will serve to capitalize on investments in infrastructure for the socioeconomic benefit of Africans.

In his opinion, the Africa we want is set out in the 2063 agenda of the African Union (AU), which calls for collaboration between countries on the continent, in order to bring about interconnection and attracting investment, so as to to generate more jobs and opportunities for youth.

“Special Industry only brings to the execution of the African plans that we all want”, he said.

In turn, the senior consultant for the American company of the National Aeronautical Space Administration (NASA), Amber McIntyre, said that the conference was a good opportunity to exchange experiences between African students, leaders and organizations.

The managing director of Space In Africa, Temidayo Oniosun, stated that the exchange of experience will serve to capitalize on investments and infrastructures for the socioeconomic benefit of Africans.

In turn, the meeting’s spokesperson, Gilberto Gomes, considered the meeting positive, highlighting that the speakers agreed that investment should be made in training staff to handle the cutting-edge technologies that the sector requires.

He also pointed out that political decision-makers have become aware that more investment is needed in space and that only through union and international partnerships can the sector be leveraged.

The III edition of NewSpace Africa took place from the 2nd to the 5th of this month, in Luanda, with the participation of representatives of the largest space agencies in the world, aiming to address the role of space technology in combating poverty on the African continent.

The event, which took place at the Talatona Convention Center (CCTA), in Luanda, was attended by 600 delegates, in addition to an exhibition by 28 prominent organizations in the global space industry and another 24 companies that presented their solutions and services.

Among the stands of the world’s main space agencies, the American NASA, the European ESA and Airbus and the Chinese CAST stand out, who were present at the event organized by Space in Africa, in partnership with the African Union (AU).

The organization of the event also included a partnership with the National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN) of the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication (MINTTICS).
