Africa-Press – Angola. The literary work “Political involvement of Christians in the Angolan context”, written by pastor Cardoso Pedro Calebe, was presented Saturday, in Huambo, to religious people, academics and members of political parties.
The presentation ceremony of the book, published by Tchi Publicações, took place at the Huambo Media Library, with the aim of correcting the misunderstanding and precepts that people have about politics and Christianity.
It is the first work by the 53-year-old author, with an initial print run of a thousand copies. Some of the works have already been autographed in the provinces of Bié, Huíla, Luanda and Uige.
The writer said that his work seeks to show God’s point of view regarding politics and what men of the past did for their countries.
For the author, abstaining from politics under the pretext of escaping sin is an attitude of alienation, ignorance and lack of civility.
He stated that the church is and should be seen as the moral reserve of society, as it is the guiding parameter for social, political and anthropological purposes.
He added that, although the church is not the magical solution to the political problems of any society, as a divine agency on earth, it positions itself favorably in the process of managing societies as a voice and a prophetic act for a country that every day appreciate yourself better.
According to the pastor, religion is the means by which man relates to God, while politics is focused on the set of natural skills and abilities that God places in man to transform his social environment, with the promotion of changes that guarantee the development of society.
In this way, he concluded, Christianity, as a religion that puts man in contact with God, through Jesus Christ, with a view to valuing him in all his dimensions, can coexist in the same life and in the same space with politics.
He said that the publication of the work was driven by concern for the way in which political issues and Christianity are viewed and lived in Angola, with a view to reflecting on the contribution of Christians in a society where there is a lack of ethical and cultural values, in addition to debate the lack of justice, peace and truth.
Born in the town of Béu, municipality of Maquela do Zombo, province of Uíge, pastor Cardoso Pedro Calebe, currently residing in Luanda, where he serves as general secretary of the Igreja Baptista Nova Aliança, has a degree in Theology from the Instituto Superior de Theology of Lubango, province of Huíla.
