Petro and Monastir repeat BAL'2022 final

Africa-Press – Angola. Petro de Luanda and US Monastir from Tunisia face each other at 2:30 pm on Saturday, in the quarter-finals of the African Basketball League (BAL- in its acronym in English), in a repeat of the final of the event 2022.

The team, at the time led by José Neto, who won the title of best coach at BAL’2022, ended up losing 72-83, failing to achieve the title of the biggest club basketball showcase in Africa, in this new version of League, sponsored by FIBA-África and NBA.

Leading the score until the last quarter, Petro could not withstand the pressure from the Tunisians, who with their persistence turned the result around in the last 10 minutes, in a game unsuitable for the faint of heart.

The highlight of the “Eixo Viário” team was Gerson Domingos “Lukeny”, best scorer of the match, scoring 28 points, with the North American, Michele Andre Dixon, standing out in the opposing team.

The “Tricolores” travel to the city of Kigali (Rwanda) on Tuesday, after completing their last training session in the country this morning.

To reach the final stage, Petro came in second place at the Kalahari Conference, which took place in Pretoria, South Africa, in March.

Monastir was third in the Sahara conference, held in Dakar, capital of Senegal.

The Tricolores’ coach, Sérgio Valdeomillos (José Neto’s replacement) will make his debut in the competition, as will winger Nicolas Faust, a recently signed North American player.

The following players are traveling for this endeavor:

Bases – Gerson Domingos and Childe Dundão

Extreme posts – Carlos Morais, Nicholas Faust and Gerson Gonçalves “Lukeny,

Wingers – Glofate Buiamba and Eduardo Simão

Posts – Aboubakar Gakou, Markieth Cummings, Cleusio Castro, Jone Pedro and Yanick Moreira
