Africa-Press – Angola. Petro de Luanda defeated 1o de Agosto, 91-80, on Tuesday (17) in a game of the 10th round of Group A of the National Senior Men’s Basketball Championship, played at the Cidadela Sportcenter pavilion.
Petro de Luanda finished the group stage undefeated with 20 points, and in the quarterfinals faces Vila Clotilde, Group B’s 2nd-placed.
Yanick Moreira and Aboubakar Gakou, both from Petro, were the top scorers of the match with 16 points each.
1o de Agosto, Group A’s 2nd-placed with 17 points, will face Ferroviário de Luanda, leader of Group B (17 pts).
The “oilmen” (Petro’s nickname) won the first period 26-16, but in the 2nd quarter, 1o de Agosto team reacted and evened the score, reducing the difference to three points (39-36), a difference that remained at halftime, with Petro maintaining the lead (42-39).
After the break, the team coached by Sérgio Valdeomillos showed greater consistency and extended their lead in the 3rd period (70-58), taking advantage of some physical decline in their opponents.
In the final quarter, Petro de Luanda confirmed their superiority and held the victory.
At 1o de Agosto team, Marcelo João (13 points) and Valdemar Avelino (12) stood out.
