Africa-Press – Angola. Four hundred and forty-eight citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) were, on Friday, prevented from illegally entering national territory by the Border Guard Police (PGF), in Lunda Norte province.

According to a note from the Provincial Command of Lunda Norte, sent, Saturday, the immigrants were accompanied by 61 children.

They were questioned at the border posts of Sekeji, Camilndo, Luia, Tumba and Nordeste, in the municipalities of Caungula, Cuango, Lóvua and Cambulo.

The note refers that most of the immigrants intended to reach the country’s capital, Luanda.

The province of Lunda Norte, with almost one million inhabitants, results from the division of the former province of Lunda, on July 4, 1978. It is located in the east of the country and comprises the municipalities of Chitato (political and economic capital), Cambulo , Caungula, Cuilo, Cuango, Capenda Camulemba, Lucapa, Lubalo, Lóvua and Xá-Muteba.

The border length with the DRC is 770 kilometres, of which 650 are on land and 120 are on rivers.
