Africa-Press – Angola. A photographic exhibition about the life and work of Agostinho Neto is on view at Largo 1o Maio, in this city, in allusion to the 101st birthday of the founder of the Nation.

The sample, which will last a week, portrays aspects of the life of the first President of Angola, in the family, political, diplomatic and military areas, before and after national independence.

Organized by the Provincial Government of Cuanza Norte, the photographic exhibition illustrates how much Agostinho Neto sacrificed so that Angola was a free and independent country.

There are also workshops with the biography and some literary works by Agostinho Neto.

The place, where a documentary about the National Hero was shown, is receiving a lot of visits, mainly from students, writers, academics and researchers.

On Sunday, a wreath was laid on the bust of Agostinho Neto and a mass political event took place at Cine Ndalatando, presided over by the provincial governor, Pedro Makita Júlia.

Pedro Makita highlighted Neto’s teachings, stating that they should serve as a “compass towards realizing the fairest aspirations of the Angolan people”.

For the governor, Agostinho Neto was a man of national dimension and also an internationalist whose path left indelible marks on the political, economic, social and cultural sphere of Angola and beyond its borders.

João Antunes suggested that educational institutions and teachers make more effort to publicize Agostinho Neto’s achievements, so that new generations are inspired by him and there are young people committed to their country.

The OPA, informed, through the organization’s friendship corners, which host several children, has been publicizing the preponderant role that Agostinho Neto had in the liberation of Angola from the colonial yoke, as well as in the sovereignty of other peoples, in addition to talking about the his achievements in literature and medicine.

The province’s grand soba, Custódio Domingos Jacinto, argued that young people should adhere to Agostinho Neto’s legacy, “agriculture is the base and industry the decisive factor”, which encourages national production.

António Agostinho Neto was born in the village of Kaxicane, municipality of Icolo and Bengo, on September 17, 1922, and died of illness on September 10, 1979, in Moscow (Russia).
