Africa-Press – Angola. At least 137 people were arrested, Sunday, in Saurimo, Lunda Sul province, by the National Police, for disturbing public order, when they intended, at all costs, to target State institutions.
According to a statement from the National Police, 92 men and 45 women were arrested, aged between 19 and 78 years.
The statement from the National Police does not specify the real reasons that led those involved to subvert the order, but states that they were equipped with materials such as sticks and stones which they threw at the officers and destroyed the windows of two of the corporation’s vehicles.
To counter the situation, public order and security forces were forced to use non-lethal means (tear gas, bullets, rubber cassettes and pepper spray) to contain and disperse the rioters.
For this reason, the National Police condemns such acts and calls on the population to remain calm and serene, as the situation is under control of the forces of order and public security.
