Africa-Press – Angola. Twenty-four thousand 170 liters of smuggled fuel were seized on the borders of the municipalities of Luau, Bundas and Alto Zambeze with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Zambia, from August 2022 to the present date.
The information was provided this Saturday by the commander of the Border Guard Police Unit (PGF), sub-commissioner Agostinho Muazunga, during the commemoration of the 45th anniversary of that National Police body.
Of the total fuel seized, 18,690 liters are gasoline, 5,190 are diesel and 290 are petroleum, he said.
He stated that the PGF also recovered 42 boxes of alcoholic beverages and 28 head of cattle, among other means, in 19,440 activities.
Agostinho Muazunga said that several criminal proceedings had been initiated and sent to the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) and the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), for due treatment.
For his part, the second commander of the National Police in Moxico, sub-commissioner Celestino Kapenda, reiterated more commitment and dedication to the PGF, in fulfilling the work of surveillance and protection of the borders.
Created on August 26, 1978, under a Law of the then Council of Revolution, the PGFA’s main objective is to safeguard the borders of the national territory, standing out in preventing illegal entries and exits.
Due to the missions it fulfills, the PGFA is also considered an important body in the fight against illegal practices and other criminal activities that affect the territorial integrity of Angola.
In the country, the PGFA controls 5,188 km of land borders, 201 km with Congo-Brazzaville, 2,511 km with DRC, 1,100 km with Zambia and 1,376 km with Namibia.
Moxico, the largest province in Angola, shares a border of 330 kilometers with the DRC and 747 kilometers with Zambia, through the towns of Luau, Caianda, Jimbi, Luhuza, Caripande, Mussuma, Mitete and Malundi.
