Africa-Press – Angola. The politician Eduardo Jonatão Chingunji “Dinho” presented, in Huambo, volumes I and II of the book “The Royal Family and the Lord of War”.

The works, published by Mayamba publishing house, were prefaced by professor and former Vice-President of the Republic, Bornito de Sousa. In the books, the author narrates the death, persistence, resilience, audacity and dexterity of the Chingunji family during colonial times, Independence and post-Independence.

With nine chapters, the books portray, in a chronological way, themes of the author’s life in Angola, history of the founding of UNITA, colonial war, national independence, unpublished stories of Jamba (Cuando Cubango), death of his parents Samuel Chingunji and Marta Chingunji , witch burnings, democratic elections in 1992 and the end of the civil war in the country.

On the occasion, Eduardo Jonatão Chingunji, quoted by Angop, said that the books address moments in history and the contribution of national liberation movements, namely the MPLA, FNLA and UNITA to the proclamation of Independence, on 11 November 1975, as well as the cold war in Angola.

He referred that the books have an academic, social and cultural nature, as they contribute to the richness of the collective memory of Angolans and, in particular, for researchers of the country’s history, from its genesis to the present day. He made it known that the title of the book “The Royal Family and the Lord of War” is linked to his relatives who were preponderant in the creation of the kingdoms of the provinces of Bié and Cunene, as well as UNITA.

He informed that the works, launched last September, with a print run of 1,000 copies each, had already been presented, in addition to Huambo, in Benguela, Huíla, Luanda and Moxico, due to the existing connection with the Chingunji family.

On his turn, the director of the Office of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports in Huambo province, Jeremias Piedade Chissanga, said that the works enrich the national bibliographic collection, with cultural elements that reflect the past of Angola, in different phases.

He referred that the articles written by the author will serve as a reference for current and future generations on the history of national liberation, the cold war and other important moments in the country.

Born in September 1964, in the municipality of Lubango, Huíla province, Eduardo Jonatão Chingunji, known in Angolan society as Dinho Chingunji, graduated in Civil Construction Engineering in 1997 at South Bank University, United States of America.
