Africa-Press – Angola. The construction of various social and economic facilities, such as schools and reference hospitals, airports and others that impact the lives of families, as well as the consolidation of peace and national reconciliation were highlighted by politicians, in Malanje, as some of the gains resulting from National Independence.

Interviewed regarding the 48th anniversary of National Independence, marked, the politicians highlighted that throughout this period the country expanded social services across municipalities and trained staff in various areas of knowledge, with emphasis on health and education.

Despite these advances, they recognized that there is still much to be done in order to improve the living conditions of the most vulnerable population.

According to the second secretary of the MPLA Provincial Committee, Nelo de Carvalho, November 11th continues to be the most memorable date in the country’s history, as from then on Angolans gained dignity and became politically and economically autonomous.

“From 1975 to 2023, Angola achieved several achievements, despite the turbulent period of armed struggle it went through”, he noted, remembering that before independence, Malanje had a shortage of doctors and teachers, contrasting with the current reality, marked by the annual training of hundreds of health and education technicians.

He highlighted that in these 48 years of liberation from the colonial yoke, Angola achieved peace with political maturity and dialogue between political forces that were once at odds, the effects of which are also visible in the lives of Angolans.

Nelo de Carvalho also highlighted Angola’s affirmation in the Concert of Nations, currently assuming itself as a “turntable” for peace in the Southern African region.

For the politician, more than three decades after the historic event, it is necessary for Angolans to commit to the diversification of the economy, investing in agriculture and livestock, with a view to increasing domestic production.

In turn, the secretary of the National Liberation Front (FNLA) party in Malanje, Jacinto Dala, said that the country has been recovering over the 48 years, but he still believes there is a need to work harder and harder to overcome weaknesses in the energy and water, health and education sectors.

He also called for greater attention to the living conditions of former combatants, noting that many of those who fought for National Independence continue to face social difficulties.

The provincial secretary of the Social Renewal Party (PRS), Balduíno Daniel, reaffirmed the importance of national independence, as it allowed Angolans to take control of their destinies.

Looking at the country’s economic diversification process, he defended the revitalization of the industrial fabric, aiming to reduce imports of goods that the country has the capacity to produce.

The social renovator urged the reinforcement of frank and open dialogue between political actors, in order to put an end to what he considers signs of intolerance in the political arena, especially in Malanji.

The November 11th celebrations were marked with a wreath-laying ceremony at Jardim da Liberdade, in the city of Malanje, and a lecture on the gains of National Independence.
