Africa-Press – Angola. Eight thousand 282 inhabitants of Chica village, Mucope commune, Ombadja municipality, Cunene province, benefited this Saturday from a drinking water supply system.

The system was rehabilitated from the structure, replacement and placement of more taps in the laundry room, the animal trough and the construction of a well for the collection of soapy water.

The project “Reduction of nutritional vulnerability in progress in the municipalities of Ombadja and Cahama, through community surveillance and increase in water sources” is implemented by CUAMM – Médicos com África.

The project is being subsidized by Camões, IP, under the program for Strengthening the Resilience of Food and Nutritional Security in Angola (FRESAN), and with funding from the European Union.

In his speech, the deputy coordinator of FRESAN in Cunene, Juan Molina, said that the water point is part of six projects by CUAMM, in Ombadja, in the fields of water, agriculture and nutrition.

The CUAMM project manager, Anna Bigatti, asked the beneficiary community to preserve the asset placed at their disposal, as well as to make the best use of water.

For her part, the municipal administrator of Ombadja, Elizeth Mwamelongi, highlighted the importance of rehabilitating the aforementioned system in the village of Chica, which will minimize the problem of water shortages.

Elizeth Mwamelongi recalled that the population and their cattle used to travel long distances to access water from the Cunene River and the Chimpacas, but with this intervention the concern is resolved.
