Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, congratulated the people and Government of Kenya on the celebration, December 12th, of the country’s National Independence Day.

In a message sent to the President of the Republic of Kenya, William Ruto, the Angolan Head of State praised the progress made by that East African country in important areas of its national life, such as the contribution of all its citizens who mobilized and united in around the nation’s major objectives.

The President of the Republic, in the same message, declares himself pleased to note that relations between the two countries have reached a very high level, with prospects for fruitful exchange based on the potential they have.

João Lourenço also refers to his recent official visit to Kenya, an opportunity that served to appreciate, at the highest level, the paths of bilateral cooperation.

Angola/Kenya Cooperation

The friendly relationship between Angola and Kenya dates back to the years of the struggle for national independence, when the then Kenyan President, Jomo Kenyatta, brought together, at the same table, in 1975, the leaders of the liberation movements, to align a common vision .

But cooperation, in the broadest sense of the word, gained momentum in 2010, when Kenya Airways began flying to Luanda, under an agreement in the air transport sector, signed a year later, that is, in 2011.

Meanwhile, in 2014, Angola and Kenya signed four agreements that reinforced bilateral cooperation, namely the General Agreement on Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation, the Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Angola and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kenya, the Agreement on the Creation of the Bilateral Commission, as well as the Agreement for the Operation of Air Services between the respective territories, in the field of transport.
