Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, expressed his dissatisfaction with the construction company of the “Bispo Emílio de Carvalho” hospital for requesting “an additional amount far above” that stipulated in the contract.
After inaugurating, this Friday, the General Hospital of Viana Bispo Emílio de Carvalho, João Lourenço said, however, that he liked the quality of the work and the equipment installed, adding that, in this area, it is improving, from unit to unit.
He recalled that hospitals of this magnitude and importance have been built since 2018, when the program to build modern tertiary-level units began.
The President stated that the contracts are to be respected, but with the aforementioned company they are not being respected, not from the point of view of quality or execution deadlines, but because he is requesting additional amounts “that would be enough to build and equip a hospital from scratch”.
“It is clear that Angola cannot accept this, as this has not happened to anyone else and will not happen now. We won’t let it,” she assured.
The PR stressed that Angola still has many hospitals to build, citing those in Bailundo, Dundo, Malanje, Mavinga and Cazombo as general hospitals, since the localities (some) will gain the category of provincial headquarters, being This is why the Executive is on alert and attentive to the need to defend the country’s interests.
“Public money is to be well spent, we have accounts to settle, before our taxpayers, we have to know how to justify the way the money is spent”, he highlighted.
For João Lourenço, Angola fortunately is in a market economy, and the options are countless, and “the market will dictate the best solutions for the units that are yet to be built”.
The General Hospital of Viana Bispo Emílio de Carvalho is located in the Urban district of Zango, municipality of Viana and offers services such as general clinic, cardiology, neurology, ENT, ophthalmology, orthopedics-traumatology, gynecology-obstetrics, stomatology, urology, general surgery, anesthesiology and oncology, among others.
