Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, has accepted the invitation to visit Portugal in 2024, the president of the Assembly of the Portuguese Republic, Augusto Santos Silva, announced this Tuesday in Luanda.

At the end of the audience with the Angolan President, the Portuguese parliamentarian said that – during the meeting, among other topics, a brief discussion was made about bilateral cooperation, highlighting that “the relations are absolutely exceptional”.

He argued, remembering that throughout this year the three main figures of the Portuguese State, namely the President of the Republic, President of the Assembly and the Prime Minister, officially visited Angola.

He reiterated that relations are strengthened at all levels, with it being “known, public and well-known that the relationship between the two Presidents is very strong”, the same happening with the head of the Portuguese Executive, António Costa.

Augusto Santos Silva, who participates in the 147th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIP), highlighted the cooperation between the two parliaments, considering them to be equally good, a fact reflected in the celebration, in 2023, of the 20th anniversary of the signing of the agreement between them. the assemblies.

“The two assemblies have been cooperating for 20 years, and, with regard to issues of mobility, economy, politics and diplomacy, our relationship could not be better, and today we are experiencing perhaps the highest moment in many years of the relationship between Portugal and Angola”, he stressed.

In the chapter on multilateral relations, he praised Angola’s “excellent” presidency of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), which resulted in gains for all members.

Cote d’Ivoire

In another audience, João Lourenço received the president of the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire, Adama Bictogo, who told the press that he expressed his gratitude for the opening of Angola, having pointed out the dynamics of good relations between the Ivorian statesman, Alassane Ouattara , and its Angolan counterpart.

Adama Bictogo said that the hearing focused mainly on two points, the first being economic in nature, thus establishing a bridge between Angola and Côte d’Ivoire, taking into account the advantages that the two countries offer to the IPU.

Regarding the second point, he reported that the Angolan President expressed his desire to strengthen relations between the two parliaments, which was done on Monday, through the signing of a memorandum.

The meeting, he added, also served to transmit exchanges of messages between the two Heads of State.

Taking into account current events, he said, the energy crisis and the war in Ukraine, the consequences of which are being felt in Africa, were also addressed, as well as the Israeli-Palestinian war.
