Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, reiterated, this Saturday, Angola’s desire to continue implementing joint and mutually advantageous projects, in order to increasingly strengthen the bonds of friendship between Angolans and Turks.

In a message addressed to his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, on the occasion of the celebration of the first centenary of the founding of Turkey to be celebrated on Sunday, 29th, the Angolan statesman said that the implementation of common projects will bring tangible benefits to both peoples.

The Angolan Head of State also praises Turkey’s journey throughout this century, in which it has always played a central role in resolving economic and security issues in the region of which it forms part, as a result of the robust development achieved in several areas, among which are science, commerce and industry.

Angola and Turkey maintain commercial cooperation in the areas of air transport, defense, trade, investment protection, oil, mining, agriculture and renewable energy.

Available data shows that the turnover between Angola and Turkey, in 2021, was around 170 million dollars.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries date back to 1980 and are supported by cooperation agreements in the Fisheries, Education, Science and Technology, Oil and Gas, Industry and Agriculture sectors.

Turkey exports wheat, machinery, household appliances, hospital and health supplies, among others, to Angola. In the opposite direction, wood, ferrous scrap and aluminum are sent.

Political-diplomatic relations were strengthened in 2008, with bilateral cooperation, the year in which the Commercial, Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement was signed in Ankara (Turkey).

Diplomatic relations were cemented with the opening of the Turkish embassy in Angola in 2010, followed by Angola in Turkey in 2011.
