Africa-Press – Angola. New services are available to users of the Maternidade Irene Neto, in Lubango, Huíla province, reopened this Wednesday by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.
It is a unit that, in the last five years, has benefited from rehabilitation and equipping, in a financing of around 12 million and 500 thousand American dollars.
The re-inauguration takes place within the framework of the celebrations of the 8th of March, International Women’s Day, which is celebrated today.
The project is part of the Angola Revitalization Program (social bonus), of the Block 0 Associations, which includes Total, ENI and Cabinda Gulf Oil Company, under the management of the Angolan Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, as well as of the National Agency of Petroleum, Gas and Biofuel.
Among the new services, the Lubango maternity has four new equipped operating rooms, a new neonatology and radiology room.
The infrastructure also has, among the novelties, an intensive care unit, disease wards and a fully structured emergency block.
With 122 beds, the renovated unit now has an ultrasound scanner for emergencies and outpatient consultations. The intervention in the maternity hospital covered the three floors and the ground floor, where the obstetrics, neonatology and amphitheater services are located.
The areas where the gynecology, infectious and contagious services, central pharmacy, administrative services and external consultations are also covered by the intervention.
Areas such as where the sterilization, laundry and kitchen services operate have also undergone interventions, as well as the area of external pavilion 2, where the morgue operates.
The project includes a unit for emergency services, normal delivery rooms and a corridor, which will connect with the operating room in the main building.
Installed in an area of 4,855 square meters, in the center of the city, the Lubango Maternity “Irene Neto”, which called for an urgent rehabilitation, ceased to function in December 2018.
At the same time, the services of the “Irene Neto” maternity hospital were temporarily transferred to some premises of the Hospital Central do Lubango, “Dr. António Agostinho Neto”.
