Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, returned to Luanda this Thursday, coming from Spain, where he participated in the Global Conference on the Impact of Vaccination, which took place from 13 to 15 June.
At the “4 de Fevereiro” airport, the Angolan Head of State received greetings from the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, and members of the Executive.
In the capital of Spain (Madrid), the
Angolan President, João Lourenço, was distinguished with a book entitled “The Art of Saving Life”, in recognition of his efforts in combating the Covid-19 pandemic.
At the event, João Lourenço thanked the support of partners, including the Covax Initiative, Gavi, WHO and UNICEF, as well as the Spanish government, for the success of the vaccination program against Covid-19.
Also in Madrid, the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, and the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, assessed the level of cooperation and friendship between the two countries.
During the meeting, the two entities reviewed the current state of bilateral relations, in the most varied domains.
The presence of the Angolan leader in Spain is due to an invitation from GAVI (Global Alliance for Vaccines) and the Spanish Government, bearing in mind his outstanding participation in vaccination against Covid-19 in Africa.
The Global Conference on the Impact of Vaccination had the participation, among other entities, of representatives of multilateral organizations, governments, civil society, companies and universities.
The meeting evaluated the impact achieved by Gavi (an initiative of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) from January 2021 until the current month, a period in which the initiative faced the double challenge of supporting, with its partners, routine immunization and corresponding to the needs of Covid-19.
