Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, stated, this Monday, in the province of Bengo, that it is necessary to take measures in cases of medical negligence in the country’s hospital units.
The Head of State was speaking to the press after inaugurating the new General Hospital of Bengo, located in the town of Bucula, around five kilometers from the city of Caxito, called Reverendo Guilherme Pereira Ingles.
João Lourenço admitted that cases of medical negligence still exist, as everywhere in the world, and that the authorities will continue to pursue them.
As an example, he mentioned that, in the most recent case of medical negligence and mistreatment of a citizen who went to a hospital unit, the competent authorities took the necessary measures, denying that there was impunity.
For the Statesman, wanting the health system in Angola, at this moment, to be perfect is demanding too much.
The Reverendo Guilherme Pereira English hospital has a capacity for 200 beds, 15 clinical areas distributed in 24 blocks, six residences for professionals and a hemodialysis center.
The new hospital, whose work began in July 2021, cost the State coffers around 63 million and 180 thousand dollars. It will be a training and scientific research center and will encompass several services, with emphasis on general medicine, pediatrics and surgery.
According to the Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta, the hospital was built with the aim of being a reference in excellent humanized care, scientific research and staff training. The project generated around 650 direct jobs in various categories.
The tertiary level Hospital will guarantee the provision of medium and high complexity services, greatly reducing evacuations to Luanda and abroad. It will serve the population of Bengo and neighboring provinces.
