In a message sent to his counterpart Félix Tshisekedi, the President of the Republic refers to having been with “a lot of emotion and sadness” that he became aware of the “devastating consequences” of the torrential rains.

The Angolan statesman underlined the fact that the tragedy had affected some communes and neighborhoods of Kinshasa and caused a “high number of human victims and significant material damage”.

Faced with this painful occurrence that afflicts the Congolese people, on the eve of the Christmas season, President João Lourenço addresses “heartfelt condolences” to his counterpart, Félix Tshisekedi, and to the victims’ families, on behalf of the Angolan Government and his own.

The President of the Republic extends condolences to the people of the DRC and, in particular, to the bereaved families, “in this dramatic moment they are going through”.

Last Tuesday, more than 100 people died as a result of the torrential rains that occurred in Kinshasa.

The Ngaliema commune was the hardest hit and, among the main material damage caused, is also the blockage of the main access road to the Matadi Mayo community.
