Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, addressed, this Monday, in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, with her counterpart from Rwanda, Mukabalisa Donatille, the Angolan mediation process for the pacification of the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The approach took place during a meeting between entities on the sidelines of the work of the 14th Assembly of Presidents of Francophone Parliaments.

Carolina Cerqueira informed her counterpart of the role of President João Lourenço’s mediation for an effective peace in the East of the DRC, through the reinforcement of dialogue and understanding to guarantee peace, stability and security in the Great Lakes Region.

The President of the Angolan Parliament took the opportunity to clarify that the Angolan contingent that will verify the cantonment of the M23 forces and their families, as well as promote the demilitarization in identified areas in the East of the DRC are forces of peace and deterrence, committed to guarantee of peace and protection of the rights of civilian populations who are victims of crimes and violation of their fundamental rights.

Carolina Cerqueira referred that Angola has a positive tradition of seeking peace through dialogue, coexistence, reconciliation and political integration.

The official added that through parliamentary diplomacy, Angola is sharing its experience with parliamentarians in the region and in Africa.

The parliamentary leader stressed, during the meeting, that parliamentary diplomacy must assert itself more and more as the voice of the wishes of the populations that chose their legitimate representatives, democratically elected.

The two presidents also analyzed the role that parliaments should play in favor of youth empowerment, women’s autonomy and the strengthening of women in parliaments.

The role of Churches in cohesion, peace and social stability, taking into account Rwanda’s experience in regulating religious practice and as a guarantee of stability and pacification, was one of the issues also addressed by both parties.

The two entities also agreed that they will make efforts to create friendship groups at the level of the Parliaments of both countries.

Parliamentary cooperation with France

Also during this Monday, Carolina Cerqueira, analysed, with her counterpart from France, Yaél Braun, the need to relaunch parliamentary cooperation taking into account the current challenges of peace in the African region and worldwide.

The approach also included the role of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting peace, dialogue, tolerance and understanding among peoples.

Carolina Cerqueira reported on the important role of the Angolan legislative body, its composition and organization, multi-party, generational and gender representation, challenges expressed in the work programs and engagement for the successful realization of the 147th of the UIP.

The president of the AN of France found the presence of parliaments in the National Security Councils pertinent and considered that the case of Angola could inspire her country to move in this direction.

The Francophonie Parliamentary Assembly aims to represent the interests and aspirations of the people of the Francophone community with the Francophone, to promote democracy, the rule of law and human rights, particularly within the Francophone community, to bring a political perspective to the Francophone authorities and convey opinions in agreement with the Francophonie authorities.

Among the organization’s objectives are also the promotion of cooperation and strengthening solidarity within the French-speaking community, respecting the right to development, publicizing and promoting the international role of parliamentarians, contributing to the development and mutual knowledge of the cultures and civilizations of the peoples who make up Regular use of the French language, without French culture and civilization, contribute to the influence of the French language.
