Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, on Tuesday assessed the degree of execution of the works of the new Burns Hospital at Kilamba residential cluster, in Luanda, which will have the first hyperbaric chambers in the country for the treatment of critical burns.
The completion of the project, budgeted at more than 155 million dollars, is scheduled for October this year.
During the visit, the Head of State, accompanied by his assistants, toured several areas of the infrastructure, including the fourth model, and received explanations from those responsible about the progress of the contract, in charge of the construction company Omatapalo.
The main objective was to verify compliance with deadlines and quality standards, as well as to identify and resolve any technical and operational constraints.
Beginning in March 2022, the hospital is being built on a total area of 48,207 square meters, spread across four buildings, including the main six-story block, an oxygen production center, and a wastewater
treatment plant.
The unit will have 250 beds, 60 of which will be dedicated to the Intensive Care Unit and dedicated burn care, as well as three hyperbaric chambers (the first in the country), advanced medical technology essential for the treatment of severe burns, resistant infections, and other complex pathologies.
The project includes laboratories, an operating room, imaging services, physiotherapy, an outpatient consultation area, endoscopy and sterilization rooms, an auditorium, technical areas, parking for
364 vehicles, a cafeteria, adult and pediatric inpatient areas, among other amenities.
The project, with a 36-month completion date, is part of a package of strategic investments in the healthcare sector aimed at strengthening specialized hospital response capacity for the treatment of severe burns and other complex pathologies.
This is the second time that the Head of the Executive Branch has visited the construction site of this national healthcare system project, which will minimize the population’s demand for services in
this area (burns).
Also Tuesday, President João Lourenço will learn about the progress of the Pedro Maria Tonha “Pedalé” Hospital Complex, which is being built from scratch in the municipality of Samba, Luanda.
