Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, highlighted this Monday, in Luanda, the preservation of the independence and sovereignty of the territory as the main achievement of Angolans and a lasting legacy of the last 50 years.

In an exclusive interview with the Angolan Public Television (TPA), he recalled that the country was the target of two external invasions and experienced an armed conflict that lasted for about three decades, despite this Angola managed to maintain these two fundamental assets.

However, he continued, Angolans also knew how to end the war, build peace and national reconciliation and have managed to rebuild the country, the main infrastructures, improve the economy, diversify the economy and become less dependent on oil, among other benefits.According to the Head of State, this year the country has an acceptable growth rate of 3.5% per year, the non-oil economy is at 4.5%, inflation is at 22% and is being reduced, and unemployment is at 29%.

“The debt-to-GDP ratio is well below 100%. It is at 63%, and we have already been above 100”, he said.

He said that we have more than enough reasons to feel proud of the achievements achieved during this period, this year, when the country celebrates its 50th anniversary on November 11th.

Regarding the event’s celebrations, he explained that there is an organizing committee with a program that excludes no one and that in principle everyone should and is invited to participate in them as they wish.He recalled that the ongoing awards ceremonies in the country clearly demonstrate this and that no one is being forgotten, since citizens from various sectors of society, from various social strata and from practically all professions, religious beliefs, political forces, among others, are being honored.

“The important thing is to know that he is Angolan and that he made a contribution to this building called Angola, which was born on November 11, 1975,” he said.

He warned young people to see the awards as a reward for the good practices carried out in favor of the country by their parents and grandparents, since many of them did not expect to be honored, proving that the nation always recognizes its children.

He assured that more medals will be awarded because the expected number of awards is around two thousand and only a little over half have been awarded.Future

For the next 50 years, he recalled that the work is far from being completed and that the current and future generations will continue working to reach a stage considered ideal, but that it will require the same efforts.

The great challenge, he argued, will continue to be the construction of more infrastructure, more schools, hospitals, roads, more railways, a greater and better supply of health and education, food and other products.
