Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, is in legal conditions to convene general elections in the coming days, after the National Electoral Commission (CNE) approved, this Tuesday, the opinion on the existence of requirements for this purpose. .
This Tuesday, the plenary of the CNE unanimously approved the opinion on the existence of conditions for the President of the Republic to call the general elections, scheduled for August.
According to CNE spokesman Lucas Quilundo, the plenary, in its fourth extraordinary session, under the terms of article 112 of the Constitution, unanimously approved the opinion that will be immediately forwarded to the Head of State.
At the end of the meeting, guided by the president of the CNE, Manuel Pereira da Silva, the spokesperson explained that, for reasons related to the administrative procedure and some ethics, it is not up to this body to disclose the content of the opinion.
Asked about the complaint of some opposition parties, who accuse the institution of illegal acts in public procurement, Lucas Quilundo said that the issue is closed and there is little or nothing to comment.
However, he clarified that when the CNE hired the Spanish company Indra to provide the technological solution and the electoral logistics, it was transparent and strictly followed all the rules that the legislation determines on public contracts.
