Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan President João Lourenço on Saturday reaffirmed the Executive’s commitment to working for the well-being of Angolans.

The Angolan statesman was speaking during the New Year’s greetings ceremony, at the Protocol Complex of the Presidency of the Republic, during which he thanked the words of encouragement, comfort and recognition given by the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa.

He added that everything that was done throughout the year “was for the happiness of Angola and Angolans.

“We worked to try to do the best we could in all areas of politics and the economy,” he said.

The President acknowledged that not everything was achieved, but stated that many noteworthy events took place during the year 2025, deserving recognition both internally and externally.

He lamented the fact that the country was marked by “a tragic event, the loss of the former Vice-President of the Republic, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos,” who died suddenly on the 18th of this month.

In his speech, the President reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to trying to make 2026 a better year than the one that ends.

“We will remain focused on trying to solve the people’s problems and seek to bring development to our country”, he assured.

To this end, João Lourenço said that he counts on everyone, “not just those present in this room, with all Angolans, from Cabinda to Cunene, because making a country is not just the task of politicians or businessmen, it is the task and responsibility of all of us”, he concluded.
