Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, congratulated, this Sunday, the people and the Government of Cuba, on the celebration of the 64th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, which is celebrated yesterday.
In the message to his counterpart Miguel Díaz-Canel, the Angolan Head of State reiterates solidarity with the Cuban people, “which over the decades has shown itself to be resilient”.
It is resilience “in defense of your identity and principles by which your nation is governed, through achievements undertaken in the most diverse spheres of Cuban national life, worthy of our appreciation”.
In the missive, President João Lourenço expresses Angola’s interest in identifying new areas of reciprocal collaboration, with the intention of continuing to boost the historic ties of friendship and cooperation existing between the two countries.
The Angolan statesman mentions, in the document, that the interest in new areas of collaboration is aimed at the benefit, progress and development of the respective peoples and countries.
Lastly, President João Lourenço expressed wishes for health, personal well-being and prosperity for the Cuban people in the year 2023.
Cuba has been a strategic partner of Angola since independence in 1975 and supported the country in the war against the apartheid regime in South Africa.
Cuba has trained many Angolan cadres and aspires to greater involvement in economic cooperation with Angola.
The first cooperation agreement between Angola and Cuba dates back to February 1976 and covered the sectors of Health and Education.
