Africa-Press – Angola. President João Lourenço highlighted on Friday the role of the Luanda Science and Technology Park as an important meeting point between academia, scientific research, the business sector, and young entrepreneurs who wish to develop their startups.
Speaking to the press at the end of the infrastructure’s inauguration ceremony, the Head of State stressed that the project comes at an opportune moment for the country, at a time when economic and social development demands an ever-increasing focus on science, innovation, and technology.
“The country, to develop, must pay attention to science and technology. Young people and companies will end up being the main beneficiaries of this Science and Technology Park,” the president said.
João Lourenço highlighted the investments made by the government in recent years in infrastructure construction and the training and recruitment of qualified personnel for the higher education and scientific research sector.
According to the president, the government decided to reinforce investments in higher education infrastructure, considering that education is the basis of national development.
During the visit, João Lourenço announced that a future University Hospital should be operational in 2027. He also informed that, in the same area, the infrastructure of the Institute of Health Sciences will be built, as well as the faculties of Medicine, Engineering, Sports and Humanities.
The Luanda Science and Technology Park is seen as a strategic platform for the promotion of innovation, scientific research and youth entrepreneurship, contributing to the diversification of the economy and the strengthening of the national technological ecosystem.
