President João Lourenço ends official visit to Brazil

Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, yesterday ended his official agenda in Brasília, where he witnessed, on Sunday (January 1st), the inauguration of the President of Brazil, Luís Inácio Lula da Silva .

At the Brasília Military Air Base, the President received farewell greetings from Brazilian Government authorities, the Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, and the Angolan ambassador to Brazil, Florêncio de Almeida, among other entities.

In Brazil, the Head of State, who left the Angolan capital on December 30th to respond to Lula da Silva’s invitation, was accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço.

In addition to participating in the inauguration ceremony, João Lourenço granted audiences to the presidents of Timor-Leste, José Ramos-Horta, of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoko Embaló, to the first Deputy Prime Minister of the Economy of Ukraine, Yuliia Svyrydenko, and to the president of the Parliament of Algeria, Ibrahim Boughali, among other entities.

Technical cooperation between Angola and Brazil began to take shape in 1980 with the signing of the Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation Agreement, on the 11th of June of that year.

Under this agreement, Angola and Brazil developed cooperation in the areas of health, culture, public administration, professional training, education, environment, sports, statistics and agriculture.

Brazil was the first country to recognize Angola’s independence.
