This project includes the expansion and modernization of the Sacomar Commercial and Mineral Port, the construction of a new container terminal, and the development of the “Mussungo Bitoto” Cultural Center.
This new infrastructure will place the Port of Namibe on the global trade route.
The project represents the rebirth of an industrial icon that will drive the development of Angola’s mining economy and create new opportunities for the Angolan people.
Speaking to the press, President Lourenço congratulated the people of Namibe on the new container terminal and Sacomar Mining Terminal, which will accommodate mineral from the interior of the country, particularly the provinces of Huíla, Cubango, and Cuando.
The president noted that, with the inauguration of these port facilities, the project will move into the integration phase with other transportation modules, such as roads and railways. The Moçâmedes Railway will be integrated with this infrastructure.
President Lourenço also praised Toyota Tsusho Corporation’s social responsibility in transforming the space into a leading cultural center for the province and southern region of the country. This project had been stalled for half a century.
