Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan President and Chairperson of the African Union (AU), João Lourenço, traveled on saturday to Brazil to attend the 17th Summit of the BRICS, on Sunday, in Rio de Janeiro., as a guest.
At the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, the Statesman received farewell greetings from the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, and other personalities present.
A press release informs that the BRICS members and the invited leaders who will travel to Rio de Janeiro, from different geographical regions, such as Asia, Latin America and Africa, plan to share reflections on various current issues that are growing concerns of humanity.
Among these issues, peace and security, global governance reforms, strengthening multilateralism, artificial intelligence, the environment and global health stand out.
The document also states that the discussion of these topics will be distributed over the two days of the Summit, with Sunday (6) working as the main day, with sessions planned in the morning, afternoon and even evening, almost on a “non-stop” basis.
The BRICS is a grouping formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia and Iran. It serves as a forum for political-diplomatic articulation of countries in the Global South and cooperation in the most diverse areas.
The objectives of the BRICS include strengthening economic, political and social cooperation among its members, as well as promoting an increase in the influence of countries in the Global South in international governance.
The group seeks to improve the legitimacy, equity in participation and efficiency of global institutions such as the UN, the IMF, the World Bank and the WTO. In addition, it aims to boost sustainable socio-economic development and promote social inclusion.
