President João Lourenço Swears in New Cuanza-Sul Governor

Africa-Press – Angola. President João Lourenço swore in on Tuesday the newly appointed governor of Cuanza-Sul and deputy governor of Cunene in Luanda.

Eugenio Laborinho has been appointed governor of Cuanza-Sul, succeeding Narciso Benedito. Meanwhile, Generoso Kondjasili was sworn in as deputy governor of Cunene.

The ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace in Cidade Alta, where the Head of State wished the new appointees success, emphasising the importance of commitment, dedication and purpose in carrying out their duties.

“I wish you much success in the performance of the functions you will assume from now on,” the president said.

During the ceremony, President Lourenço emphasised the new governor’s experience, highlighting his various responsible roles throughout his career, including minister.

According to the President, Laborinho is a proven figure with the competence, commitment and leadership capacity that he believes are fundamental to boosting the province’s development.

“Cuanza-Sul has great potential, and we must make the best use of its capabilities,” he said.

The Head of State reiterated his wishes for the new governor to perform well, encouraging him to promote inclusive, results-oriented governance.

Eugenio Laborinho, on his turn, stated that he intends to carry out a fact-finding mission in the province initially, in order to assess the current situation and continue the programme left by his predecessor, adjusting it to the new realities.

The governor also emphasised the importance of collaborating with civil society, businesspeople and other social partners to strengthen government action.

“We will comply with the President of the Republic’s guidelines, work with dedication, and join forces to address the current challenges of this particularly demanding period and earn the trust of the population,” the governor said.
