Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, reaffirmed, this Tuesday, in Abidjan, the role of parliamentary diplomacy in the peaceful resolution of conflicts, through dialogue, tolerance and African solidarity.
Carolina Cerqueira, who was speaking at the meeting of the presidents of the Assemblies and Sections of the Africa region of the Francophone Parliamentary Association, said that, in its 5th legislature, the National Assembly of Angola is proud to be representative of different political options, generational balance and of gender and to be the legitimate representative of the people who, through fair, democratic and transparent elections, elected their representatives in the hemicycle.
On the occasion, he appealed to African parliamentarians from the Francophonie zone to join the peace efforts in the DRC through demilitarization and the end of hostilities by rebel groups that create instability, heinous crimes against defenseless civilian populations and sow terror and insecurity. .
Carolina Cerqueira recalled the mediation role played by the Angolan President, João Lourenço, for an urgent and effective solution in the Great Lakes Region.
By the way, he made known that the National Assembly of Angola recently authorized the sending of 500 military personnel and logistical material to verify the quartering of the rebel forces of the M23 and their families.
The Angolan parliamentary leader reaffirmed that these are peace and dissuasion forces whose objective is to protect the civilian population and promote conditions for security and stability, so that the population can enjoy peace and its dividends, in an effort common ground of reconciliation and national reconstruction.
Carolina Cerqueira supported the proposal for discussion at the next meeting in Nyamry, Republic of Niger, on the topic of climate change and energy transition, a fundamental condition for drawing up strategies to face the challenges posed by natural catastrophes and the proliferation of conflicts they provoke the increase in poverty and vulnerability of the most disadvantaged populations.
The President of AN also mentioned the autonomy of women, the empowerment of young people and the promotion of human rights and the strengthening of democracy as fundamental for sustainable development, social justice and peace.
