Remains of Healthcare Professionals Arrive in Uige

Africa-Press – Angola. The coffins containing the remains of the two healthcare professionals from Uige province, who died in the Cabo Ledo road accident in Icolo e Bengo Province, have arrived in Uige Province from the country’s capital, Luanda.

The tragic accident claimed the lives of the nursing director of the Negage Municipal Hospital, Distinto Andre Paixão, and the nursing supervisor of the Uige Sanatorium Hospital, Bem-Vindo Lucas. The accident resulted in a total of 11 deaths, while 34 people were injured.

The Health minister, Silvia Lutucuta, accompanied the arrival of the remains at Manuel Quarta Punza Airport in Uige city, where she addressed words of comfort to the bereaved families and the population of Uíge, emphasizing the magnitude of the loss.

José Carvalho da Rocha, the local governor, said the tragedy has caused irreparable loss for the families, as well as the health sector in the region.

The memorial ceremony included moments of prayer, signing of the book of condolences, and the reading of messages from institutions that praise the professionalism, dedication and the legacy left by those who have passed away.

After attending the service, minister Sílvia Lutucuta will also travel to the province of Cabinda in order to accompany the urns containing the remains of another four healthcare professionals who were victims of the same traffic accident.
