Africa-Press – Angola. The ​president of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies​ (​​IFRC), Kate Forbes, expressed ​this Monday, in Luanda, her gratitude to the​ Angolan Executive for the​ support provided to​ Red Cross of Angola (CVA).

The official spoke to the press at the end of the audience granted by the President of the Republic, which also served to talk about the challenges that Angola faces, the positive steps, as well as the issue of food insecurity​, caused by natural disasters​, namely drought​ extreme.

Regarding the fact that he chose Angola as the first African country to visit, he highlighted the work that CVA has been doing and the challenges to be faced, especially supporting the population in terms of food insecurity and all other scourges.

For these aspects, he reinforced, it was important to come and provide institutional support, as well as to provide solidarity with the CVA so that it can be comfortable that the ​IFRC​ is ready to support.

It is the first time that a top entity from the International Federation of the Red Cross has visited Angola.

Of North American nationality, Kate Forbes was elected president of the IFRC, in December 2023, at the Extraordinary General Assembly, held in Geneva, and placed Angola as a priority on her work agenda in Africa.

Kate Forbes advocates for a more inclusive and efficient federation to support the National Societies of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, as a global humanitarian network that has helped more than 80 million people in situations of vulnerability and danger.
