The re-elected president of the National Electoral Commission (CNE), Manuel Pereira da Silva, will take office on the 21st of April, at the National Assembly.The information was released yesterday by the 1st Secretary of the Board of the National Assembly, Manuel Lopes Dembo, after leaving the meeting of the Conference of Presidents of Parliamentary Groups, chaired by the President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira.
“At this same meeting, the President of the National Assembly will swear in the President of the National Electoral Commission, in accordance with the Organic Law on the Organization and Functioning of the CNE”, stated Manuel Lopes Dembo.
Manuel Pereira da Silva was reappointed to the position after winning the public selection process promoted by the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSMJ), in which he obtained 91 points.
The judge, also, beat candidates Rosalino Miguel Domingos, who obtained 48 points, and Amélia Cristina Ernesto, with 33 points, and was the only one to meet most of the requirements.According to the CSMJ, criteria such as seniority in the judiciary and the experience of Manuel Pereira da Silva, who already led the CNE during the 2022 general elections, were decisive in the evaluation. This competition re-elected him as leader of the CNE for a further five-year term. Manuel Pereira da Silva has held the position of president of the CNE since 19 February 2020. The Electoral Legislative Package and the Organic Law of the Supreme Court will go to the final global vote.
