Africa-Press – Angola. The new president of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIP), Tulia Ackson, promised this Tuesday, in Luanda, to work tirelessly towards a more inclusive, sustainable and peaceful world.

Tulia Ackson, elected president of the IPU with an absolute majority of 172 votes, assured that her leadership at the head of the multilateral organization will revolve around three fundamental pillars, namely collaboration, inclusion and progress.

He said he will prioritize building solid and dynamic partnerships with international organizations, governments, civil society and the private sector.

In his view, collaboration and coordination are essential to carry out changes and ensure success and collective efforts.

He promised to work to improve the effectiveness, transparency and accountability of the IPU, accelerate reforms within the organization, with a view to peaceful coexistence and global prosperity, and increase the representation of women and youth in national parliaments.

Thanks to the host country

Tulia Ackson thanked the president of the National Assembly of Angola, Carolina Cerqueira, “for being an excellent host and for choosing the place for the event”, as well as the delegates who trusted in her leadership, the Tanzanian Government and the campaign team.

He reaffirmed his commitment to work with everyone, including the defeated candidates, to make the UIP the most transparent and responsible organization.

“I need your ideas to take the UIP to another level, if there hadn’t been this electoral race, we probably wouldn’t have known each other so well, so this is also an opportunity as a UIP family to move forward together”, he said.

Tulia Ackson announced that she will always speak with the outgoing president of the UIP, the Portuguese Duarte Pacheco.

“You are an outgoing president, yes, but you will forever be a president of the UIP and, under my leadership, I will certainly talk to you a lot, because I need your ideas to ensure the progress of the UIP”, he emphasized.

In turn, the outgoing president of the UIP, Duarte Pacheco, said that the election took place in a very normal atmosphere, expressing satisfaction with the fact that there was more than one candidate, “which means that there are several people available to serve the organization “.

Regarding the new president of the UIP, he considered that she is a woman full of qualities, competence, work capacity, intelligence and common sense.

“When we are running an organization we have to have common sense, give in here and there, to find the necessary balance to move forward”, he maintained.
