The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, addressed, this Sunday, a message of congratulations to the new King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Charles III, enthroned on Saturday in his functions, after the death of his mother and Queen Elizabeth II, on day eight, due to illness.

In the message, President João Lourenço writes that King Carlos III has just assumed the responsibility of succeeding, in such high positions, his mother, a figure he considers unique in the modern history of the United Kingdom and the world today, for unusual qualities, ensure, for decades, the unity of the British people and contribute, with their knowledge and modesty, to world peace.

“In the presence of such high stature of your predecessor, who was also, for many years, your precursor, we are certain that Your Majesty will be a very worthy builder of new foundations on which works of solidification of concord and of harmony between the British and the peoples that inhabit our Planet”, reads the President’s message.

The President of the Republic also expresses the conviction that, during the reign of Carlos III, Angola and the United Kingdom will maintain, intact, the values ​​of friendship and solidarity by which their respective peoples and governments are governed, in the action they undertake , in a coordinated manner, always with a view to intensifying bilateral cooperation and increasing benefits for both parties.

On Friday, the President of the Republic addressed the United Kingdom Embassy in Luanda to express his condolences to the people and Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

In the book of condolences opened at the headquarters of that diplomatic mission, President João Lourenço, who was accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, highlighted that the seven-decade reign of Queen Elizabeth II forever marked the British people. , which he served, contributing to its edification as a thriving nation, whose progress, as he underlined, serves as a reference for all peoples on a global level.

“This fateful event leaves a huge void around the world and determines the end of the era of a monarch who stood out for her dynamism and firmness, and who goes down in history, leaving a legacy of stability and union”, highlights President João Lourenço. , who was received on the spot by the UK ambassador to Angola, Roger Stringer.

Queen Elizabeth II died on the eighth of illness at the age of 96 at her home in Balmoral, Scotland. Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral is scheduled for the 19th of this month.
