Africa-Press – Angola. Last week, in Luanda, beans were the product with the biggest price drop (5.87 percent) in informal markets, while rice also recorded a 1.70 percent drop in supermarkets.

These data result from a weekly survey on the prices of 16 essential products, known as basic food baskets, titles from Edições Novembro EP, in 14 supermarkets and nine (9) informal markets.

The prices of basic food products from the third to fourth week of January 2024 recorded, in general terms, an increase of 0.51 percent.

According to the weekly survey carried out with operators, product prices in commercial establishments showed an increase of 0.86 percent. The products with the biggest increases were wheat flour with 3.92 percent, sweet cornmeal (with 3.34) and beef (with 3.05). On the other hand, there was a price reduction in iodized common salt, with a drop of 3.47 percent compared to last week’s prices. The prices of white sugar (3.18 percent) and regular rice (1.70 percent) also saw drops.

In informal markets, prices increased by 0.11 percent. The products with the biggest increases were regular rice with 4.43 percent, chicken thighs with 3.35 percent and wheat flour with 2.74 percent, respectively. However, there was a price reduction for beans with 5.87 percent, tomatoes with 2.25 percent and bombó cornmeal with 2.14 percent.
