Africa-Press – Angola. The artist Raffa, O invincível, opens today, from 6pm, the solo exhibition “Faces in looks that speak”, at Galeria Resiliart, in Shopping Fortaleza. The musical moment takes place from 8pm.

The event is part of the celebrations of 48 years of National Independence and the first year of the gallery’s existence. According to the program, before the opening of the exhibition, in the afternoon the creation of the “Manta da Paz” takes place.

According to Marcos Agostinho, director of the American School of Angola, the event is an initiative of a community project coordinated by the Americans School of Angola “ASA” that brings together plastic artists from Resiliart Angola and children.

For three hours, starting at 12:00 pm and ending at 3:00 pm, participants paint cloth to create a mosaic that will constitute the “Manta da Paz”. This work, as well as the exhibition and the concert are also held within the scope of the Luanda Biennale: Pan-African Forum for the Culture of Peace and Non-violence.

The exhibition will include 20 works of paintings and will be open to the public who loves Angolan visual arts for two months, from Tuesday to Sunday from 12:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

In a statement to the press, artist Raffa said that the exhibition will give the public a look at social phenomena. “The world has gone from bad to worse and there is such falsehood among people and at certain moments in our lives we need to close our ears and open our eyes to be able to see and feel the cry of a look. Because the eyes are the windows of the soul and no matter how much we hide, the truth is exposed in him.”

The artist explained that the exhibition will tell about different stories that happen on the streets of the capital city. “On the streets there are thousands of stories in people’s eyes, because in this exhibition I invite everyone to immerse themselves in this visual journey, through the works I will present.”

Through colors, he highlighted, he decided to be part of the solution to social problems, reusing solid waste materials.

Manuel André Pedro, pseudonym Raffa, born on September 10th, graffiti artist, founder of the Movimento de Arte Livre group, composed of approximately 20 members and attended the Art School Complex “CEART”.

He participated in Pintura da Serra da Leba, a project launched in 2015 by Brazilian artists, which gave rise to the film “Murais da Leba”. He traveled to Brazil in 2019, where he participated in several artistic activities, having gained more experience. He had his first solo exhibition, organized by the Company ESO MGM Prestação de Serviços, Lda, in 2019. He worked for Polvo Real as a design and visual artist.

The Resiliart Gallery at Shopping Fortaleza was inaugurated on November 10, 2022 with the collective exhibition “Dipanda” with artists from the project. Resiliart Angola, with the purpose of providing a space where young artists can exhibit and present their creations, for the visual arts-loving public.

Resiliart is a global movement created by UNESCO at the beginning of the health crisis. In Angola, the American Schools of Angola (ASA), in partnership with UNESCO and the Angolan Executive, came together and launched the Resiliart Angola project to empower young artists most affected by the crisis, with the aim of giving voice, supporting, creating opportunities and mitigate the economic and sociocultural effects caused by Covid-19. Since its creation two years ago, the project has significantly impacted the lives of many young artists.
